The ACAS template confirms what an employee needs to know when they leave:
Send it soon after you receive the resignation, so both sides have the dates in writing.
An employee who has worked for you for a month or more must give at least 1 week's notice, or more if their contract says so. Their notice usually starts the day after they tell you. You can agree to let them leave earlier, or offer pay in lieu of notice.
No. ACAS is clear that you cannot reject an employee's resignation. You can offer an informal chat if you think it was made in the heat of the moment.
You do not have to, but ACAS says it is good practice. Confirm you received it, their last day, their final pay including holiday and any deductions, and anything you need from them before they leave.
